Seoul [South Korea], January 17: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for amending the constitution to identify South Korea as the 'main enemy', and at the same time legislate the determination to 'fully occupy' South Korean territory if conflict occurs.
"In my opinion, we can clearly state in the constitution the issue of occupying, conquering and reclaiming all of Korea , and annexing it to our country's territory in case war breaks out in Korean Peninsula," KCNA news agency quoted Mr. Kim as speaking at the Korean National Assembly session on January 15.
According to the leader, the North Korean constitution needs to provide for educating people that South Korea is the "main enemy that cannot be changed". Mr. Kim also ordered "erasing the remnants of the old era" that can be seen as a symbol of inter-Korean reconciliation, "completely blocking all North-South communication channels along the line."
Referring to North Korea's nuclear weapons , Mr. Kim reaffirmed that Pyongyang will not avoid war, although it has no intention of unilaterally starting an armed conflict unless provoked. Also according to KCNA, North Korea has decided to dissolve agencies in charge of promoting inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation, including the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland , the National Economic Cooperation Department and the Tourism Management Board. Kumgangsan international calendar.
Tensions have continuously increased on the Korean peninsula recently. According to Yonhap, Seoul believes that Pyongyang is waging psychological warfare before the April election in South Korea. The US has expressed disappointment at statements from North Korea.
