The Chinese military outlines how to collect information about foreign ships and aircraft

Beijing [China], October 10: The Chinese military has outlined ways to enhance the navy's data analysis capabilities and collect large amounts of information on foreign ships and aircraft, according to SCMP .
The South China Morning Post ( SCMP ) reported today, October 10, that in a full-page article published on October 9, PLA Daily , the mouthpiece of the Chinese military (PLA), described how data analysts about Yancheng, a Type 054A guided missile corvette, worked with radar operators to collect sonar data from foreign ships.
PLA Daily quoted a commander of the PLA North Sea Fleet as saying: "Collecting data has become one of our main tasks during regular training."
The Yancheng was launched in 2011 and initially did not have a sonar system, but an article from PLA Daily said the ship has been upgraded and can now participate in anti-submarine operations and use data Anti-ship missiles were collected during previous exercises simulating attacks by multiple drones.
Also according to PLA Daily , China's most advanced destroyer, Nanchang, has collected a large amount of reference data from many other warships in joint operations since the ship was put into operation in 2020.
It was previously reported that some of the technology found on the Nanchang destroyer and other Type 055 destroyers was also equipped on the Type 054B corvette, a more modern version of the Type 054A, according to SCMP .
The Chinese military operates the world's largest naval fleet with 425 ships in operation, as of August 2023, according to SCMP citing the World List of Modern Military Warships.
However, even though the US Navy has about 280 warships, the country is still the strongest in the world if measured by other criteria, according to Rand Corporation, a research organization funded by the US government.
