Taiwan will always be open to interact with Beijing: Presidential candidate

Jan 10, 2024

Beijing [China], January 10: Taiwan's door will always be open to interact with Beijing as peace is priceless and war has no winners, the presidential candidate from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Lai Ching-te, said on Tuesday.
"Our door will always be open to engagements with Beijing on the principles of equality and dignity. We are ready and willing to engage for the shared welfare of people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait," Lai told reporters as quoted by media.
The politician added that "peace is priceless and war has no winners." Taiwan will hold its presidential election on January 13, 2024. Taiwan's incumbent leader, Tsai Ing-wen, is no longer eligible for reelection as she has already served two consecutive terms as the island's president.
In April, the DPP officially nominated Lai, who is also its chairman, as the party's presidential candidate. (Sputnik)
