Russia urges Kursk residents and soldiers to boost online security

Aug 21, 2024

Moscow [Russia], August 21: The Russian Interior Ministry urged residents on Tuesday in three border regions near Ukraine to deactivate dating apps and online surveillance cameras.
"The enemy identifies IP addresses on our territory on a large scale and connects remotely to unsecured cameras that monitor everything from private yards to strategically important roads and motorways," the ministry said.
It also advised against using online dating services, which could also be used for information gathering.
The Ministry of the Interior advised Russian soldiers generally not to open text messages from unknown senders and to also delete chats with comrades if they have been taken prisoner of war. Residents of border regions were also advised not to share video recordings of military convoys on social networks.
Soldiers, police officers and intelligence officers were told to delete photos that identify them as members of these services from their mobile phones. (DPA)
