Ruling alliance wins most seats in Nepal's National Assembly election

Kathmandu [Nepal], January 26: The candidates from Nepal's ruling parties won 18 out of 19 seats in the National Assembly election held on Thursday in Nepal.
The Nepali Congress, the largest party in Nepal, won 10 seats while the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) registered a victory in five seats. Similarly, the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) grabbed two seats while the Janata Samajbadi Party secured one seat.
The four ruling parties formed a pre-poll alliance and fielded the common candidates for the election.
The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist), which is the second-largest party, won just one seat.
"Only five out of eight parties that were contesting the elections have managed to win one or more seats," Shaligram Sharma Paudel, spokesperson for the Election Commission, told Xinhua.
The election for the third of seats in the 59-member National Assembly are held every two years. While 56 members are elected through the voting from all seven provinces, three are nominated by the president on the recommendation of the government. The newly elected members will join the parliament on March 3.
