Aug 07, 2024

Doha [Qatar], August 7: Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Tuesday discussed joint mediation efforts aimed at ending the Gaza conflict in a phone call with U.S. President Joe Biden.
The two sides also discussed the latest developments in Gaza as well as the strategic relations between the two countries, said a statement released by the Amiri Diwan, the sovereign body and the administrative office of the Emir.
According to a statement released by the White House, Biden thanked Sheikh Tamim for his determined leadership in the facilitation of negotiations that have now reached a final stage.
The two sides agreed on the urgency of bringing the process to closure as soon as possible. Both leaders and their teams agreed to remain in close coordination over the coming days.
Qatar is an important partner for the United States in the Middle East. Since the outbreak of conflict between Hamas and Israel in October last year, Qatar, along with the United States and Egypt, has been mediating in an effort to end this prolonged conflict.
However, the recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran has led to a stalemate in peace talks and a sudden escalation in regional tensions.
