Jul 21, 2023

Ramallah [Palestine], July 21: One man was killed overnight in clashes between Palestinians and the Israeli military in the West Bank, Palestinian sources said on Thursday.
Three other Palestinians were injured, two of them seriously, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah.
The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that the Palestinian killed was 19 years old.
The Israeli army said on Twitter that clashes had occurred with Palestinians during a visit by Jewish worshippers to Joseph's Tomb in Nablus, a city in the northern West Bank.
The tomb of Joseph is believed to be the final resting place of the biblical figure Joseph, son of the patriarch Jacob. His tomb is venerated by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike.
Shots were fired and tear gas was used, Wafa reported.
Palestinians reportedly threw explosives and stones at security forces, according to the army. It responded with gunfire and said there were casualties.
In the past, Joseph's Tomb has repeatedly been the target of violence. Jewish worshippers are only allowed to enter the site in the West Bank with permission. The security situation in Israel and the West Bank remains tense amid a surge in violence in recent months.
Since the beginning of the year, 25 people have died in attacks by Palestinians. During the same period, 158 Palestinians have been killed in clashes.
