Seoul [North Korea], January 29: KCNA news agency reported on January 29 that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea tested a new strategic cruise missile for the second time within a week, and this time it was submarine-launched missiles (SLCM).
North Korea 's Chairman Kim Jong-un oversaw the missile test, named Pulhwasal-3-31 . This is the same missile that Pyongyang announced last week that it was in development.
KCNA and Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported that the missiles were launched from submarines in waters off the east coast, traveling 7,421 seconds and 7,445 seconds respectively before hitting an undisclosed target on an island.
Thus, according to North Korea, both missiles have a flight journey of more than 2 hours.
President Kim announced that the above test was successful, marking strategic importance in the process of promoting the country's naval modernization plan.
A day earlier, the South Korean military announced that the North had fired many cruise missiles at an offshore location but did not provide details.
Last week, Pyongyang said it was testing a new strategic cruise missile, designed to carry a nuclear warhead, but did not mention that this missile line was being developed for submarines.
In recent months, North Korea has tested a variety of weapons, including ballistic missile systems and unmanned underwater vehicles.
Chairman Kim also inspected the construction of nuclear submarines and discussed issues related to the production of new warships, KCNA said but did not provide further information.
