The Japanese Ministry of Defense then ordered PAC-3 missile defense units to be ready to shoot down any North Korean missiles that land on Japanese territory.
South Korea also warned North Korea not to carry out the satellite launch, or it will have to pay the price.
South Korea, the United States and Japan allege the upcoming launch violates United Nations Security Council resolutions for using banned ballistic missile technology.
