Many tourists died and went missing on Greek islands last week

Athens [Greece], June 17: An American tourist was found dead on a beach on the Greek island of Mathraki on June 16, the latest development in a series of deaths and disappearances on the country's tourist islands.
ABC News quoted Mathraki island officials as saying the American citizen's body was discovered at 1:30 p.m. (local time). The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Investigators said the man was last seen on June 11 at a pub in Mathraki, west of Corfu island. He was staying with a Greek- American friend . The friend called the police after returning home on June 13 and discovered the door was open, the air conditioner was still running, but the American victim and his identification papers were missing.
This is the second time in a week that an American tourist has gone missing on the Greek islands. Greek officials said Albert Calibet, a former deputy sheriff in the US, had been missing since June 11 after a hiking trip. Mr. Calibet's girlfriend said the two were still in contact the morning before he departed. The search for Mr. Calibet is still continuing.
On June 15, the body of a 74-year-old Dutch tourist was found on the island of Samos. Authorities used drones to search and discovered the victim lying in a ravine, 300 meters from where he was last seen. Some witnesses said that the Dutch tourist had difficulty hiking in the intense heat in Greece .
One day earlier, two French tourists (64 years old and 73 years old) were reported missing on Sikinos Island, after leaving the hotel to meet each other, according to The Guardian .
On June 9, Dr. Michael Mosley, famous British television presenter, was found dead on Symi Island. Investigators concluded that he died on June 5 after walking through dangerous rocky terrain.
Media said that some people who died or went missing in the above incidents decided to go hiking in hot weather. Last week, several schools and the famous Acropolis tourist destination in the Greek capital Athens closed in the face of extreme heat.
