It's right time for more targeted operation: US

Jan 16, 2024

Washington [US], January 16: A top US official has reiterated that Israel should switch to more targeted strikes in Gaza, in an apparent sign of growing frustration in Washington with the Israeli military response to the Hamas attacks on October 7.
When asked whether the United States should exert more pressure on Israel, the communications director of the National Security Council, John Kirby, told reporters: "We have been talking to them [Israel] intensely about a transition to low intensity operations.
"We believe it's the right time for that transition," he said on broadcaster CBS on Sunday. Israel had "done some precursory steps to try to kind of get to that point," including "relying a little less on airstrikes," he said.
He then stated, "We believe that the time has come to make this transition." Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Monday spoke out in favour of "a sustainable ceasefire" in Gaza. (DPA)
