Heatwave hits people in emergency shelters in Turkish quake zone

Istanbul [Turkey], August 14: People in south-eastern Turkey were struggling with intense heat at the weekend some six months after devastating earthquakes hit the region where many people are still living in emergency shelters such as tents or containers.
In the provinces of Hatay and Kahramanmaras, temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius were measured on Sunday. In the capital Ankara, more than 36 degrees was measured.
According to the Turkish weather service, the heatwave, which is mainly affecting the south-east of the country, is expected to continue for the whole week. Temperatures are expected to be up to 10 degrees above normal for the time of year. (DPA)
