Gunman shoots Swedish consulate worker in western Turkey

Istanbul [Turkey], August 2: A gunman shot and heavily wounded a Turkish employee at a Swedish consulate in Turkey's western province of Izmir, state news agency Anadolu reported on Tuesday.
The gunman shot the female consulate secretary in front of the mission's building in central Izmir, Anadolu said.
The employee, identified as Emine T, was in critical condition in hospital. The attacker was reportedly detained after being disarmed, the report added. The attack happened around 12.45pm (09:45 GMT), Izmir governor's office said on their website. They identified the attacker as "a mentally unstable" person, who was registered in eastern Turkey.
