Gaza faces disaster, Israel attacks Syria

Mar 12, 2025

Tel Aviv [Israel], March 12: Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), warned that Gaza risks a famine crisis if Israel continues to block aid flows into the territory, causing the humanitarian situation there to rapidly deteriorate.
Israel's move to cut off all remaining electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip is seen as a measure to increase pressure on the Hamas group.
In addition, humanitarian organizations warn that the two remaining desalination plants in Gaza may have to close, exacerbating the water shortage. Some experts also fear that the wastewater treatment system could be severely affected, increasing public health risks.
In response to the above situation, on March 11, Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia and Qatar also condemned Israel's decision to cut off the electricity supply to the Gaza Strip, and called on the international community to take action. Meanwhile, the Houthi group in Yemen announced that as soon as the 4-day deadline expires, the group will resume attacks on Israeli-related ships if Tel Aviv does not lift the blockade on aid shipments to Gaza.
In another development, the Israeli air force launched at least 14 more airstrikes targeting radar systems and aerial surveillance equipment, along with command posts and military sites storing weapons in Syria . The areas attacked were all bases of the Syrian army under ousted president Bashar Al Assad.
