Copenhagen [Denmark], January 5: Danish Queen Margrethe II travelled by horse-dawn carriage from her residence to Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen for the last time as reigning monarch before abdicating later this month.
Danish television showed on Thursday morning crowds gathered in the snow and freezing weather to wave at Margrethe, 83, as she travelled past in her gilded carriage to an annual New Year's reception with about 1,000 guests.
The monarch's carriage ride from her residence at Amalienborg Palace to Christiansborg Palace, the seat of the Danish government, is a tradition. (DPA)
