Barcelona defender Christensen suffers fresh injury setback

Mar 02, 2025

Madrid [Spain], March 2: FC Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen has suffered another injury setback just three days after being given able to train with the squad.
The Denmark defender suffered an Achilles tendon injury after just one game of the season which sidelined him for several months, while a muscle problem delayed his return to action in the new year.
Christensen was finally passed fit on Wednesday, but has now suffered a calf injury that will keep him out of action for another three weeks, meaning he misses Barca's Champions League last-16 tie against Benfica and won't return to action until after the next international break.
Barcelona plays at home to Real Sociedad on Sunday, and coach Hansi Flick will bring Robert Lewandowski into his starting 11 after giving Ferran Torres a chance in the thrilling 4-4 draw at home to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of its Copa del Rey semifinal on Tuesday.
Real Sociedad's players have had a day less to recover for Sunday's match, after a 1-0 defeat at home to Real Madrid in Wednesday's second Copa del Rey semifinal.
Real Sociedad upset Barcelona 1-0 in November with a goal from Sheraldo Becker.
Becker, Take Kubo and Igor Zubeldia are all suspended for Sunday, which limits coach Imanol Alguacil's options to rotate his squad.
