14 injured in S. Korea's escalator malfunction accident

Seoul [South Korea], June 8: Fourteen people were injured Thursday as an escalator in a subway station malfunctioned, according to Yonhap news agency.
One of the upward escalators at the subway station in Seongnam, some 20 km south of Seoul, ran in reverse around 8:20 a.m. local time (2320 GMT Wednesday).
Three people were seriously injured in their back and legs and taken to a nearby hospital. Eleven others were under treatment for relatively minor injuries.
The fire authorities and the police were investigating the exact cause of the accident based on eyewitness accounts.
